Melorie Jane & Friends
Melorie Jane is a contemporary South African Jazz pianist, vocalist and composer. Her music contains influences of South African jazz and European minimalism and nuances of funk and Hip Hop, grounded in a jazz framework of harmony and improvisation. Originally from Pretoria, Melorie obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Music at the University of Pretoria in 2015, followed by a Master’s degree in Music (Jazz performance and composition) at the University of Stellenbosch in 2021. She released her debut single ‘Till the morning comes, followed by a quintet jazz album, Different View in 2018. She currently resides in Franschoek and performs in and around Cape Town. Melorie has performed at events such as the 2020 Woordfees at the Spier amphitheater in the University of Stellenbosch Jazz band, with Anna Davel, Gloria Bosman and Lana Crowster. She has also opened the stage for CODA Africa and performed at various other prestigious venues in the area., and performed with her quintet as a student-act at the DSG Auditorium at the Standard Bank National Arts Festival in 2019. Melorie Jane released two brand new singles earlier in 2021, called New Day and Amina.
